Sound is played through the pool of water. Raw recordings of the Kaua'i 'õ'ō, and sounds created by digitally processing its song. The pool rests on a plinth of ash; a tree that lived for seventy years before falling of its own accord in February 2025.
This final song was recorded during a solitary search for a mate who would never come.
Resonating through the water's surface, the bird's song reveals beautiful yet stark designs, serving as a testament to a silenced voice. A species lost to extinction.
